About The Event
Facilitator: Stephen Karmol, MA, Community Trainer
Summary:
As teachers, we often see young children are interested in play experiences that explore the theme of power. Common elements of power-themed play are capturing and rescuing, family relationships, pretend weapons, superheroes, and war themes. In this training, we will explore:
- The role of symbolic play in child development;
- Engaged guidance pratices that support children's play;
- Emergent curriculum based on power-themed play;
- advocating for school policy that reflects our understanding of child development - instead of banning play with violent and powerful themes.
