Independent Activities in the Early Childhood Classroom
Please note that the date for this event has changed from 9/18 to 9/25.

Time & Location
Sep 25, 2018, 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM
Chrysalis Home School, 4330 NE 70th Ave, Portland, OR 97218, USA
About The Event
While we all know that children should spend lots of time playing and doing open-ended collaborative activities, this training makes the case for including individual activities in the early childhood classroom.
The trainer will give many examples of simple "put and take," matching games, puzzles, sorting and counting, naming, and attribute games. Participants will leave with handouts and ideas for creating their own activities with materials that they have on hand.
Participants will discuss the benefits of these activities for a variety of children and how to incorporate them into an early childhood environment.
About the Trainer
Colleen Strohm has a M. Ed. in Early Childhood Education and a Montessori teaching credential from AMS. After teaching in traditional Montessori for seven years, Colleen started Chrysalis Home School in her home to better meet the needs of young children. While Chrysalis embraces some of the Montessori ideas of individual activities, they also encourage dramatic play, art, and socialization. Colleen has run Chrysalis Home School in northeast Portland for the past 29 years.
